Presence: [L. proesentia; proe, before, and esse, to be.]

Definition: The existence of a person or thing in a certain place; opposed to absence.

The presence of God is not limited to any place.

Presence and Person are inseparable!

  1. State of being in view; sight.
  2. By way of distinction, state of being in view of a superior.
  3. The person of a superior.

TEXT: Genesis 3:1-15 (NLT)

1 Now the serpent was the shrewdest of all the creatures the LORD God had made. "Really?" he asked the woman. "Did God really say you must not eat any of the fruit in the garden?"
2 "Of course we may eat it," the woman told him.
3 "It's only the fruit from the tree at the center of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God says we must not eat it or even touch it, or we will die."
4 "You won't die!" the serpent hissed. 5 "God knows that your eyes will be opened when you eat it. You will become just like God, knowing everything, both good and evil."
6 The woman was convinced. The fruit looked so fresh and delicious, and it would make her so wise! So she ate some of the fruit. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her. Then he ate it, too.
7 At that moment, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they strung fig leaves together around their hips to cover themselves.
8 Toward evening they heard the LORD God walking about in the garden, so they hid themselves among the trees.
8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. Kjv 9 The LORD God called to Adam, "Where are you?"
10 He replied, "I heard you, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked."
11 "Who told you that you were naked?" the LORD God asked. "Have you eaten the fruit I commanded you not to eat?"
12 "Yes," Adam admitted, "but it was the woman you gave me who brought me the fruit, and I ate it."
13 Then the LORD God asked the woman, "How could you do such a thing?" "The serpent tricked me," she replied. "That's why I ate it."
14 So the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you will be punished. You are singled out from all the domestic and wild animals of the whole earth to be cursed. You will grovel in the dust as long as you live, crawling along on your belly.
15 From now on, you and the woman will be enemies, and your offspring and her offspring will be enemies. He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel."

***God is said to come, wherever he specially manifests his presence or power, John 14:23; Luke 1:68, Exodus 33:16--The Presence of the Lord makes us special and distinct from all other people on the earth (NLT)

The law of first-mention is applicable here. The first time the mention is made of the "presence of the Lord God" Gen 3:8 – Man was hiding from it because they had disobeyed the Creator; and where were they hiding? - Among the very trees The Creator Created. This will always be the effect on man when we dis-obey the Lord; we will be in hiding, we will loose our place of prominence, we will loose contact and communication. we will become naked! We will die!!!

Christ likeness is a desirable thing, but to seek to rob God of his Glory, is devilish.

Nakedness is not just the absence of physical covering, it is the absence of divine covering -- the absence of the Presence!

Disobedience is rebellion against God's Sovereignty and the exaltation of one's humanity. It creates the condition of loss, hopelessness and abandonment.

It has always been God's intention to have a level of intimacy with His Creation, Psalm 91 . This is why God said to them "take authority and have dominion over some of the things I have created." Gen.1:26-28. God has released Humanity to be in charge and see to the proper development of systems, structures, governments and governance, and cultures in the Nations of the Earth.

Psalms 115:16 (NLT) The heavens belong to the LORD, but he has given the earth to all humanity.

---- And what did they used to cover their nakedness? - The leaves of the fig tree The Creator Created.

According to Gen. 1:14-18 The Creator God demonstrated His Nature, Character, His Person and Divine Strength by these 4 divine acts.

Divine Acts :

  1. God said -- divine permission and purpose stated (Gen. 1:14)
  2. God made -- divine regulation of solar system again (Gen. 1:16)
  3. God set -- divine placing, as before the chaos of Gen. 1:2; Jer. 4:23-26; 2Pet. 3:5-7 (Gen. 1:17)
  4. God saw -- divine inspection and satisfaction (Gen. 1:18)

Is our hiding really HIDING? Can we hide from God? Can we hide from the presence of the Lord? Psalms 139:1-10 (KJV) says: O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my every thought when far away. You chart the path ahead of me and tell me where to stop and rest. Every moment you know where I am. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. You both precede and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to know!

vs7. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

We cannot hide or cover up from God! He-Made-All-Things-And-Can-See-Through-All-Things.

Let us be determined, like Moses, to approach HIM in total Abandonment and Desperation. We need HIS presence and without it we cannot...... CONTINUE
